Brandon and Van: In Their Words

“Engaged in 2013 and married in early May 2019 - our marriage was worth the wait. With only a few minor exceptions, our wedding day was fantastic, from Brandon's surprise string quartet to the fireworks show that was a surprise gift from one of our friends. But one of our favorite moments was when my (Van's) father, a conservative Catholic, hugged Brandon and said "Welcome to the family".

“Our first date was pretty low key--it was a late dinner at West Hollywood's Hamburger Mary’s where we spent hours talking...and maybe making out a little. As we continued with our relationship we found that we don't really have any rituals except for telling each other we love each other every day and to drive safely before leaving for work for the day. And, in the evening going to sleep with Brandon taking up three quarters of the bed!

“I think friends would describe us in the way our officiant did: "Their relationship is best summed up by my favorite quote from ModernFamily: “There are dreamers and there are realists in this world. You’d think the dreamers would find the dreamers and the realists would find the realists but more often than not the opposite is true. See, the dreamers need the realists to keep them from soaring too close to the sun and the realists, without the dreamers they might not ever get off the ground.” I think we know which of you is the realist and dreamer. " Our officiant was so good and Brandon has a thing about public speaking that we opted not to write our own vows. But from the homemade invitations to the destination to the thematic color choice for the wedding to the music, our personalities were woven into the whole weekend.”
