Daniel & Bengt: "I Do" Oslo

Daniel and Bengt first met around the holiday season. Christmas was right around the corner and both were preparing to celebrate with their families when their lives completely changed. There is simply no better way to tell their love story than In Their Words.

“Bengt was more forward while I was a little more hesitant about meeting people through dating apps. The dating apps I had been on before felt a bit shallow, and really didn’t interest me much. During Christmas, I needed a break from family and said yes to meeting him for a drink in town. I was little nervous but did not have too high of expectations.

When I saw him walking towards the bar from the window, my first thought was, ‘Damn, this guy is hot.’ And my second thought, ‘This is defiantly too good to be true. There is no way we could be a match!’ I was quickly proven wrong as soon as he made a geeky Harry Potter reference. From there we went dancing. There was an instantaneous attraction between us. We were different from one another, but somehow just really understood each other on a deeper level. Bengt is so down to earth, and has this interesting mix of an old but also very young soul. We have spent every night together since that first date.

“I think we both knew that we were in love pretty fast. I needed more time opening up about it than Bengt did, but I felt it from the start. It was very intense, but it was also something I always had a difficult time talking about. It’s hard to put this in words — it just felt like love at first sight. 

“We had both been through a lot in life, and spending time together made both of our hearths grow to believe we deserved more than what we were getting. We got engaged one month after we met during a trip to Lisbon, Portugal. Both of us proposed to each other. We just knew very early on that we had met The One.

“After 5 months back in Norway together, we returned to Lisbon to get married. Our wedding day was romanic. We woke up early in the morning feeling a little nervous about the photography, as we were really not so used to being in front of the camera. However, the photographer was super nice. He made us feel at ease and we actually ended up having a fun time during the shoot! Afterwards, we headed to the Norwegian Embassy for the wedding ceremony. It was just the two of us and those who were working at the embassy. Personal, romantic, just as we wanted it. We both had tears in our eyes during our vows, it felt deeply toughing and strong.

“Our wedding day followed with lots of Moroccan cake and champagne, so much champagne that we needed to take a drinking break so we could actually pay attention to the private concert I had arranged for Bengt. We listened on as the singer covered our song, I am Kissing, by Des’ree. After the concert, we knew it was time to get back to the back yard of our apartment and enjoy the rest of the night, just the two of us.

“We’ve been traveling together a lot since the wedding. We’ve gone to Bali, Vietnam, Argentina, Chile, Germany and Hungary. We share a passion for travel, so we know there is much more to come! We now are in the process of moving to Oslo as we sell our current apartment located in a rural part of Norway. We cannot wait to get to Oslo and buy a home together.”
