Alex and Josh first met when they played on the same LGBTQ+ kickball team together in Denver Colorado. “I had played for a few seasons already when he joined our team as a free agent.” Alex explained.

“We started as really good friends. We went to brunch every weekend, we watched a lot of Netflix with each other, and of course, played kickball. We started to realize how easy it was for us to just be ourselves… We really enjoyed spending our time together, and then sort of fell into dating.”

Alex and Josh continued to see each other, and it wasn’t long before they realized that this was the real deal. Alex and Josh fell in love, and at some point as they continued to date, Alex thought about how he wanted to propose. “I knew that our engagement had to have two things—a surprise, and our friends and family. It was October of 2018 when I knew I’d be proposing on December 1st. I immediately called my family and one of my best friends, Michonne, and told them they had to come to Denver for an engagement party. I made my parents promise to keep it a secret. And I told Michonne to text Josh and me, "I'm thinking of going to Denver on Dec 1st, can I crash with y'all?" It was the perfect cover up.”

Alex continued planning the surprise engagement party and spread the word to his friends and family, making them promise they would keep it a secret. “About 40 of our closest people knew the plan. I planned to propose at Red Rocks in the morning, with everyone waiting at Dos Luces.

Michonne pretended that she had never been to Red Rocks before and Josh, the Colorado native, had to take her there. Michonne asked Josh to take a photo of her with the rocks in the background and I got on one knee behind him. He turned around and was speechless!”

The engagement party was an absolute blast, and Alex and Josh began the process of planning their wedding day. They found the perfect venue, Space Gallery Annex in Denver’s historic Baker Neighborhood. “Space Gallery Annex was under construction when we first went to see it and immediately fell in love. We picked early October because of the perfect weather.”

“Our wedding day was honestly such a blast. We had about 140 people and the dance floor was constantly packed. After the wedding reception we went out for a night on the town with some of our friends and family.”

After the wedding day, Alex and Josh spent three glorious weeks traveling around Europe. From Gothenburg Sweden, Berlin, Paris, Mallorca to Barcelona, they celebrated the start of their marriage with a trip of a lifetime. “It was seriously the perfect balance of relaxation, exploring, and nightlife.”

When asked what advice they would give to other couples planning their wedding, Alex and Josh suggested to, “Do some level-setting. If you've ever planned a get together, you have all of the necessary skills and knowledge to plan a wedding. It’s just a party on a larger scale. It was really reassuring for us to keep in mind that for most people, as long as there is some good food, good music, and some good drinks, there will be a party!”

Now husbands, Josh and Alex are living their happily-ever-after together in Denver, Colorado.
