Last month’s Engagement Story featuring Adam and Kevin was a brilliant example of when it’s meant to be, it is meant to be! After two fully planned attempts at a wedding (one in Palm Springs and the other in Puerto Vallarta) this couple finally tied the knot in a broadcast (or virtual) wedding. We are delighted that the couple took the time, just days after tying the knot, to tell us all about their magical wedding day.

As a quick reminder, Adam and Kevin hosted guests from around the country and world over Zoom. The ceremony included only their immediate family—minding social distance protocols—on a professional soundstage, while 130 guests attended from the comfort of their own homes. The wedding theme was inspired by their original venue in Puerto Vallarta and everyone attending remotely received a kit containing elements for them to experience their lush tropical garden wedding.

When asked of the details of their wedding, Adam and Kevin told an exquisite story, starting with the rehearsal dinner, which was hosted by Adam’s brother and sister-in-law (who also officiated the wedding). As Kevin said: “It was really lovely having our parents meet for the first time,” while Adam pointed out: “Both of our parents gave toasts which was a big deal given how much they all hate speaking in public!”

As is typical, the day-of was not without its last-minute hiccups, staring with the weather being unseasonably cold. This sent Kevin in pursuit of (and construction of) heat lamps and blankets given the reception was to be held outside. Just a small errand ahead of picking up the cake and heading to the studio for a tech rehearsal and, of course, pre-wedding cocktails and hors d’oeuvres.

Adam & Kevin's Zoom Wedding Set

Once lights, camera and action were called, Adam and Kevin’s ceremony unfolded. We asked what it was like to have a wedding on set, with lights and camera. “Despite there only being 10 of us in the room, there was something about seeing the cameras and the tech-team, that served as a constant reminder for me that we were surrounded by 130 people we love, all there to celebrate with us. To me it felt large and immersive.” One of Adam’s friends who studied film pointed out: “It was more cinematic than being there, but it’s also what made it special and made us feel like we were involved. So just like when you see a wedding in a movie, we felt more emotional.” Further, Adam’s friend pointe out: “Everyone was talking about the close up shot of you stroking Kevin’s finger before putting the ring on. It was intimate and special and the sort of detail no one would have seen or been drawn to if we had been there.”

The grooms each wrote their own vows. “I started writing my months ago and added to them every time I thought of something more,” Adam explained. “They turned out to be 17 paragraphs long, which I edited to two minutes the week of the wedding.” Kevin said: “I was a hot mess! It was a really magical experience because I wanted the opportunity to tell Adam, in my own words, why I was marrying him, what I want for our life together, and for our friends and family to hear, as well.”

Given Kevin is prone to crying, the grooms later found out that there were bets as to how often he’d cry and a drinking game for every time he did!

As for their favorite moments of the day, Adam referenced having their parents together and being walked down the aisle by their mothers. “And, my sister-in-law did an incredible job officiating the wedding.” For Kevin it was the intimate moment of putting on his mother’s corsage and Adam’s boutonniere. And, “I DO! Kissing my husband and  then turning to the cameras together with triumphant clasped hands thrown up in the air. Everyone turned on their microphones at this point and through the speakers came a barrage of whistles, yells, congratulations and shouts. It was such a joyous moment and something I'll remember for the rest of my life.”

Knowing that their most recent plan for getting married in Puerto Vallarta was scuttled, we asked how their broadcast wedding stacked up. "I don't feel like our wedding was in any way less magical. Different, yes... but every bit as special and meaningful to me,” Kevin explained. “We got married when we wanted to, shared it with everyone we wanted to, and we'll have a big-ass party when that becomes an option again!”

We have a feeling that wherever these two go, the celebration will follow.
