"We met in the university choir back in 2012. Both of us enjoyed singing, and we still do. Our relationship started off directly, first as friends. We sang in the same vocal range and were both basses.” Soon enough, Oscar asked Niclas out for dinner. Neither had any idea what was going to happen. Little did they know at the time that they were meant to be!

“We went to the local neighborhood pub for dinner and drinks.” It turned out that funny enough, Niclas and   Oscar happened to be neighbors! They lived just 2 to 3 blocks away from one another. “We talked the whole night and were the last guests leaving the pub that night.”

Oscar reflected on his first impression of Niclas. “I thought Niclas was very casual and professional. I wanted to know more about Niclas’s career paths and what kind of interesting personality he had. I was impressed by Niclas’s dedication and achievements in life. I was also stunned by his smart mind, genuine kindness and politeness. I started to get hooked.”

Niclas continued, “I saw a very charming guy in front of me. I was impressed by Oscar’s charisma. Oscar’s ability of confirming and complementing me made me feel great in his company. Oscar’s warm personality made me feel comfortable. From the first second I felt I could be myself. His nice smile made my heart start to melt.”

Over the next couple of years, the two grew closer together. It wasn’t always easy, but they felt stronger and stronger for each other the longer they dated. In January 2017, Oscar asked Niclas to marry him. Oscar, which might be seen as the more conservative, had already asked Niclas’s father for permission.

“It was an early Saturday morning in the end of the month. We remember this clearly since we were in the middle of moving. I had prepared a special nice breakfast for Niclas that morning. There were flowers and lit candles on the table, romantic French music in the speaker and black hot coffee was served. I had put a big ring in Niclas’s coffee cup. I had also prepared home-cooked Egg Royal, our favorite breakfast meal that morning.”

Niclas started to drink his coffee. When all coffee was gone from the mg, Niclas noticed the ring sitting at the bottom. “I went down on my knee and asked him.”

Niclas and Oscar held their wedding in the city of Ostersund, Sweden. The beautiful summer celebration was joined by their closest friends and family. There’s nothing quite like a party in Sweden in the summer, where the sun doesn’t set until well into the night and the weather is pleasantly warm.

Oscar’s vows to Niclas:

“Niclas, Niclas Holmberg! I love you.

You are my best friend.

I laugh together with you, I socialize with you, I become stronger with you, I cook food with you and I discover the world together with you. We talk politics and we think alike and we disagree.

We like each other and we like spend time together. We enjoy our company, you and me, and you are my best friend.

Many in my social network says that you have a good influence on me. And do you know what? I think the same. You complement me where I fail.

When I say go, you ask why.
When I say it will be alright, you ask how.
Then I say I will do it, you ask when.

One could say, we are now evolving. Like sparks that turn into flames, like a flower that is blooming and like a climber reaching the top of a mountain. We still have a long path to walk and we have just started.”

Niclas’ vows to Oscar:

“It was actually not love at first sight. First, I thought you were too silly for my taste, and we got to know each other as friends.

At our first dinner out, you wondered if I had any friend that I could match you with. I was wondering if there was anyone who you would match with. You were smart, driven and good-looking. And extremely nice and inclusive, in a slightly unique way, which makes people feel emotionally confirmed and appreciated. I also had the same experience.

And in that moment, I finally realized I wanted you. I was in love. Then everything went fast. I will never forget the first time we kissed a few months later. You were in the hospital bed in ward 36 at our local medical center. You were high on morphine, waiting for surgery to remove your appendicitis. We were coupled and together.

Every so often, I still find myself in love with you. You are my best friend and personal mentor and coach. You complement my personality. You give me perspective when I’m focused on analysis, rationalism or my ever-present “Why? Filter”. And you hold my hand in the social play.

I know you will be a great father to our children, if things go as we intended. And not just a top father, but the best imaginable. In most cases, it is the children who nag their parents that they want to play. But with you, I rather think it will be the other way around. You will be nagging them. I think Father's Day can be a special holiday in our family.

Thank you, Oscar, for everything I have experienced with you. These first six years with you have been the best and the happiest in my life. Thank you for this magic day and for a long, funny and exciting life together.”

As far as wedding advice goes, the two suggest having as much fun while planning as possible! "Make a time schedule that you both agree on. Then, make three very important decisions early: 1—Set the guest list. 2—Set a venue for the ceremony and the dinner party. 3—Set the date. All these decisions are linked and depend on each other. The number of guests may play a role in what venue you are choosing. All venues have different guest capacity. The venue might be fully booked and you need to choose another date. You cannot send a save-the-date to your guests before the venue and the date is set. You see, it all goes round and round. Sometimes, you just have to make a decision. After these three decisions, all the fun may start.”
